Found 1.3 billion euros for the completion of the highways from Metković to Dubrovnik

World news

HAC has found 1.3 billion euros for the completion of the entire highway to Dubrovnik, Jutarnji list writes on Tuesday, presenting a financial plan for the completion of Dalmatia.

By September 30 this year, Croatian highways should sign an agreement with ten Croatian banks on the refinancing of debt in the amount of EUR 1.572 billion, and with seven Croatian banks an agreement on a new loan of EUR 600 million, it was confirmed in HAC Jutarnji list.

This refinancing and new debt will provide EUR 1.350 billion in funds for the completion of the highway from Metković to Dubrovnik and from Križišće to Žuta Lokva, HAC explains. In addition, as they claim, this way, in the long term, about 35 million euros per year will be secured for regular investment maintenance of highways and the company’s operational business.

According to the available information, the agreement with the banks regarding refinancing and a new loan is nearing its end.

Extended loan repayment period

Croatian highways currently owe 3.030 billion euros and, according to the existing repayment plan, all loans should be repaid in 2030. In order to make it easier to repay the loans, find funds for new investments and enable the normal functioning of the company, it was agreed with the banks that the repayment of the loans will be extended until 2040.

In addition to the credit debt, Hrvatski autokeste also has to repay the debt of 757 million euros, which the Ministry of Finance paid to HAC and ARZ from Euro bonds in 2020. This must be repaid by January 2041, when, according to the plan, all debts of HAC would be repaid, writes Jutarnji list journalist Krešimir Žabec.
