Greece’s ruling conservative New Democracy party has not lost power – these are the preliminary results of Sunday’s parliamentary elections in this country. According to an exit poll, the party of Prime Minister Kyriakos Micotakis can count on 36-40 percent of the vote, and the opposition left-wing Syriza of former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras from 25 to 29 percent.
According to exit polls, the country’s governing party, New Democracy, led by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, won the parliamentary elections in Greece. Polls conducted outside polling stations give her between 36 and 40 percent of the vote. Former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ left-wing opposition Syriza party received between 25 and 29 percent of voters. The third result was obtained by Pasok with a score of 9.5-12.5 percent. The following places were taken by: the Communist Party of Greece (6-8%), the right-wing and eurosceptic Greek Solution party (3.5-5.5%) and the MeRA25 group (2.5-4.5%). The cost-of-living crisis was the most important topic of the Greek election campaign. The parties tried to attract voters with promises of raising the minimum wage and creating jobs. Rising prices caused a significant decline in the standard of living of the Greeks. If no party wins a majority, Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou will give the top three parties a three-day mandate to form a government coalition. If this attempt fails, the president will appoint a caretaker government to prepare for new elections.
