Hołowczyc is stuck in the desert, Giemza is injured. An unlucky day for Poles in the Dakar Rally

Orlen Team motorcyclist Maciej Giemza dropped out on the sixth stage of the Dakar Rally due to a hand injury. Krzysztof Hołowczyc and Łukasz Kurzeja, who are trying to repair their Mini in the desert, have not yet reached the finish line.

In this edition of the Dakar, Maciej Giemza struggled with, among others: with a viral disease. He was also the hero of one of the stages when he helped two injured motorcyclists.

Giemza was eliminated from the Dakar

He suffered the injury during Thursday’s first part of the Chrono marathon stage. He managed to reach a makeshift camp in the desert, but the next day he was unable to continue riding. He participated in Dakar for the seventh time. It took its highest position, 17th, in 2020.

Hołowczyc, the third Dakar competitor in 2015, on Thursday collided on one of the dunes with a challenger class vehicle driven by the famous British rally driver Kris Meeke. The damage to the Mini Poles turned out to be so severe that it made it impossible to reach the designated bivouac and the crew had to spend the night alone in the desert.

According to the satellite location, the Poles’ car remains immobilized, probably the service center has not yet dealt with the problem or cannot reach them. During the second stage, while avoiding a collision with a motorcyclist, Hołowczyc hit a boulder and seriously damaged the car. Nothing serious happened to the Polish crew, but since then the driver from Olsztyn has had pain that makes driving difficult.

The only day of break is scheduled for Saturday. On Sunday, the Dakar participants will stand in Riyadh at the start of the seventh stage.
