The intervention teams on Thursday rescued a horse that remained stuck for two days on a roof in a town in southern Brazil severely affected by floods, according to images broadcast by television stations, Reuters informs.

The horse, stuck on the roof of a farm, was spotted on Wednesday by the helicopter of a television station on the outskirts of the city of Canoas, located north of Porto Alegre, the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

The mayor of Canoas, Jorge da Silva, appealed to the authorities to save the horse.

The volunteers who participated in the rescue operation said that the animal had been walking through the flooded areas for four days. With the help of military vets, rescuers caught the horse and put it in a Zodiac inflatable boat after transporting it to a safe area.

Unprecedented flooding caused by torrential rains in Rio Grande do Sul has led to the death of 107 people, while 136 are still missing in the flooded towns, where streets s -they turned into rivers.

More than 164,000 people were displaced, and the forecasts announce additional rains in the coming days, notes Reuters, quoted by Agerpres.
