Images of the fight between drunken police officers and young people during a kayak descent

World news

UA fight broke out last Thursday between police officers from the Brussels-West zone (Molenbeek-Berchem – Ganshoren – Jette – Koekelberg) in a state of drunkenness and a group of around forty young Brussels residents on a school trip, during a a kayak descent.

Our colleagues from Sudinfo managed to collect amateur images of the scene. Faces have been blurred and voices altered. The video is filmed by a supervisor from the royal athenaeum Serge Creuz (Molenbeek) who is visibly uncomfortable with the very angry police officers wearing yellow shorts.

“Sir, I am complaining”, “our students are not safe because of you”, can we hear on the video. The supervisor also asks the students to leave. “Step back, step back,” she repeats.

Local police are already on site when the video is recorded. A policeman in uniform drives away one of his Brussels colleagues, who threatens the supervisor before turning around.

The students, who are between 14 and 18 years old, and their teachers refute the version of the police. According to them, no student would have flirted with policewomen – which is the origin of the fight, according to the police version. They claim that the police were already very drunk and became very aggressive when they arrived on the banks. According to the students’ version, the policemen’s injuries (nine were injured, four of them seriously), were due to a fight which broke out between the policemen.
