San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
President Xiomara Castro visited the property in the Loma Linda neighborhood where the emergency hospital is being built, after the fire that destroyed the healthcare center on April 19.
Castro announced that the hospital will be available to serve the population in about 90 days.
“These hospitals are going to be built with funds from the reconversion of the debt with Spain. We are going to finish the Roatán hospital,” said the President.
The purpose of the temporary hospital is to provide services for 4 to 5 months while the new Roatán hospital is built, which will have greater care capacity in all specialties.
Roatán Mayor Ron McNab said construction of the new hospital is scheduled to begin this month or June, thanks to the contract award by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
The property for this new hospital in Roatán is municipal property.
“The new hospital will not only alleviate immediate medical needs, but will also serve as a health or maternal and child center after the completion of the main project,” the councilor said.
