Italians went crazy for the “new Mandžukić”. Inter joined the race with Milan

World news

BIG talent from Osijek Anton Matković (18) continues to attract the interest of European giants. The latest among them is Inter Milan, which is closely following Matković’s development, writes La Gazzetta dello Sport. The Italians previously wrote that Milan, Atalanta and Fulham were interested in Matković, while Fabrizio Romano mentioned Everton and Salzburg even earlier.

The Italian media called Matković the “new Mandžukić”, and Gazzetta points out that he is a very tall player who can keep the ball and play past his teammates. Apart from the fact that he resembles Mandžukić in his playing characteristics, they have in common that they are both from Slavonski Brod.

Millions of damages are already being mentioned

Matković took his first football steps in Marsonia, and has been in Osijek since last year. So far, he has played 15 games for the first team of Osijek and scored two goals. Osijek’s coach Zoran Zekić fulfilled his promise and immediately after arriving at the club he started to push young talents, including Matković.

He signed his first professional contract with Osijek in December 2023, and he is bound by the club until the summer of 2026. Transfermarkt, a site specialized in evaluating the value of football players, believes that he is worth 400 thousand euros, but SportItalia wrote that Milan and Atalanta are ready to pay between four and five million euros in compensation for him. The English could supposedly pay more.

If and when Osijek decides to sell Matković, he could break the club record held by the transfer of Mirko Marić to Monza for seven million euros. It would be a great job when you consider that Matković broke into the first team of Osijek only this season and made appearances in SuperSport HNL.
