Judiciary joins campaign against hate speech

With the intention of strengthening the administration of justice and creating peaceful environments for service users, the Judiciary joined the awareness campaign led by the National Commission for the Improvement of the Administration of Justice (Conamaj) against hate speech.

The institution welcomed this campaign proposed by the Commission with the aim of identify and deal with hate speech in the judicial sphere.

“We come together to say yes to tolerance, yes to respect, yes to peaceful encounter, dialogue and cooperation. From the heart of the Supreme Court of Justice and Conamaj, our message is forceful, zero hate speech and more peace”he claimed Gerardo Alfaro Vargas, presiding magistrate of Conamaj.

The campaign will take place both within the Judiciary during the month of June as in the social networks of the institution to reach a wider audience. In addition, it is planned to train judicial facilitators in order to disseminate this issue at the national level and reach civil society.

Sara Castillo Vargas, executive director of Conamaj, explained that the objective is to generate awareness in the public service, both internally and externally, to not tolerate actions that undermine democratic values and promote an environment of healthy social coexistence. To this end, various communication materials have been developed, such as informative messages sent by email, infographics and short audiovisual pieces that will be distributed on social networks and messaging applications.

In addition, virtual conversations have been scheduled for the months of June and July, in which the entities that make up Conamaj will address the issue of hate speech and other related issues.
