Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko criticizes the lack of cooperation between him and Ukrainian President Zelensky. As ZDF reports, Klitschko criticizes the lack of “unity between the political forces” in Ukraine and describes the current political competition in a time of war as “stupidity”. Klitschko claims that despite repeated attempts on his part, a meeting with Zelenskyj did not take place. “Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to meet Zelensky in person. He probably has other things to do.”
Klitschko is pushing for international help in air defense
In addition, the mayor of Kiev is calling for international support in air defense. According to Klitschko’s statement, Ukraine suffers from a “deficit in air defense systems.” He emphasizes the need to expand the radius to avoid damage from debris. In the past two years of war, more than 800 buildings were damaged and destroyed in Kiev, including almost 440 residential buildings, as Klitschko told ZDF.
Klitschko criticizes the lax fight against corruption
The mayor also denounced the government’s insufficient efforts to combat widespread corruption in the country. “You can ask any citizen this question and I am sure every citizen will say: ‘No’,” ZDF quoted Klitschko as saying today on the question of whether the government is taking effective action against corruption.
Most recently, Mykola Solskyj, Ukraine’s agriculture minister, tendered his resignation due to corruption allegations. The minister is accused of illegally appropriating state-owned land worth millions.
