Troarn (D1) hosted a hierarchically superior team, Val de Saire (R3), this Thursday, May 9, 2024 in the round of 16 of the Normandy Cup. The first minutes, all to the advantage of the Manchois, did not fail to worry the many green supporters. Faced with the pressure of their opponents, the Troarnais were unable to clear their camp properly and to make everything better, Théo Lemonnier, their goalkeeper, messed up checks and restarts.

Emerging unscathed from this first quarter of an hour, Jessy Chambey’s players would gradually find their bearings and finally lead constructed offensives. On a bumpy pitch, smooth play was not in order, so the two teams were going to indulge in a direct game strewn with approximations in transmissions and numerous mistakes in duels. In short, a real cup match concluded at the break with a good old 0-0.

A real cup meeting

The game was balanced in the first half without the goalkeepers really being called upon and we wondered which of the two teams was going to give in. The response came in the 68th minute with a clever goal from Maxime Bouillault who deflected a long touch off the back of the head. The ball hit the underside of the crossbar and ended up in the net.

Forced to push to get back to the score, the Saint Vaast la Hougue players fell into the trap set by the Troarnais. Faced with a solid defense with Maxime Lemonnier who had regained all his means, the solution of throwing long scuds into the area was doomed to failure.

Troarn scores then resists

Without trembling and carried by an enthusiastic public, Christophe Delhaye’s teammates repelled all the attacks. Troarn is qualified for the round of 16 and it is not a small performance. The only negative point was the red card received by the young Lois Desfaudais… a card which the referee could have dispensed with, in relation to the really minimal seriousness of the fault and in relation to the few seconds of play which remained.

Reaction from Jessy Chambey (Troarn coach):

” The adventure goes on. This was not planned in the plan at the start of the season. What we achieved today is beautiful because we achieved it with a nice mix of A and B. Val de Saire only offered a long game. We responded in the duels. What is a shame is the red card at the end for Lois (Desfaudais) which spoils the party a little. Now, we are forced to play on both sides but we are not complaining about it, even if two matches a week, it is getting tough. We will continue on our merry way while recovering, I hope, some players among the five who were injured. »
