Piotr Żyła: I live in the real world and I am not interested in what others write about me online. Although I know that today's sport wouldn't exist without social media

The athlete assures that he does not read gossip portals, so he has no idea in what light they present him. He has no interest in sensationalism. On a daily basis, apart from the ski jump, he lives like every average Pole – he meets friends, goes to restaurants, does shopping and performs other household duties. Piotr Żyła also emphasizes that he is not addicted to social media and does not feel the need to post extensive reports on Instastories every day. However, there are times when his activity in these channels is much greater. This happens e.g. during ski jumping competitions or during other professional projects.

The jumper knows the pros and cons of being a public figure. And although he is often in the spotlight, he also tries to find time only for himself and his loved ones. As he argues, the red carpet and life in the spotlight are not exactly his fairy tale.

– I don’t really like that, I like my peace of mind, I like to go out for a walk with my dog, go jogging or do something more sporty, play tennis or squash. I like such tasks more than having someone bother me – Piotr Żyła tells the Newseria Lifestyle agency.

And although the media is very interested in his private life and his name is changed by all cases, the athlete does not bother with sensational reports and information sucked out of his finger.

I don’t know because I don’t read. I live in the real world, I don’t care what other people say or write about me. I focus on what I have to do and live a normal life, I just go shopping to the store, to a restaurant, when I’m at home I do things like everyone else – marks.

Piotr Żyła assures that he does not want to embellish, retouch or correct anything. He is also not in the habit of running around with his phone and recording everything that happens around him, only to immediately upload a video to the network. He does not feel like a slave of social networking sites, but he appreciates their role in promoting his own sports achievements.

– I use social media to inform fans and people who are interested in jumping about what is happening with me. I usually give some results and stuff like that. It’s good to share what you achieve. But I also have some sponsorship deals and I share that too – explains.

Skoczek is aware that social media is a bridge that shortens the path between famous people and their fans. Skilful movement in them, however, consists in being able to put the border in the right place. Piotr Żyła’s Instagram profile is followed by over 420,000. people.

– Nowadays, without social media, sport would not exist, would not function, so you need to inform people where you are so that they can contact us, the players, get an autograph or a photo. I think you just need to share your life a bit online too he adds.

Piotr Żyła recently took part together with Rafał Zawierucha in the campaign of the Stopklatka channel “Lecimy z hitami”. The world champion in ski jumping and the actor switched places for one day, showing each other the techniques of their professions. Rafał Zawierucha flew with Piotr Żyła in a specially prepared wind tunnel, where the air speed reaches up to 200 km/h. Piotr Żyła, in turn, practiced his acting skills with Rafał Zawierucha, playing fragments from the cult horror “Omen”, “Back to the Future” and “Angry Young”, i.e. hits of the spring schedule of Stopklatka.
