KBR, Jakarta – The National Awakening Party (PKB) has put forward the name of its general chairman, Muhaimin Iskandar, as a potential vice presidential candidate to accompany the presidential candidate from the Gerindra Party, Prabowo Subianto.

Chairman of the PKB Central Leadership Council (DPP), Luluk Nur Hamidah said the name Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin was proposed as Prabowo’s companion because it was a political consequence of the coalition between the Gerindra party and PKB.

“From PKB, the name that was proposed was Pak Muhaimin Iskandar. It was Cak Imin who was offered by PKB and who became a decision from PKB because of the commitment to cooperation from PKB and Gerindra. The decision on the presidential and cawapres candidates will be made by Pak Prabowo as General Chairperson of the Gerindra Party and Cak Imin as the general chairman of the PKB. From the PKB, he only proposed one name, namely Muhaimin Iskandar,” said Luluk when contacted by KBR, Tuesday (6/6/2023).

Luluk claimed that most of the Gerindra cadres supported Cak Imin’s candidacy as the vice presidential candidate to accompany Prabowo Subianto.

Regarding the support given by the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) voter base or known as Nahdliyin, Luluk said, it could be good political capital if Prabowo approved Cak Imin as the vice presidential candidate.

According to Luluk, PKB is known as an NU-flavored party which has a mass base in East Java.

“Other surveys say that Prabowo has gained the trust of Nadliyyin voters. He has made a huge addition in East Java. And I believe that this is also a form of support from PKB. So when he traveled with PKB and there was endorsement from PKB and then traveling together he was brought to the base “Our base in East Java, for example, has proven to have a very significant increase and I think that is part of the indirect contribution,” said Luluk.

Referring to the results of the May 2023 Kompas R&D survey, Prabowo’s electability among Nahdliyin reached 25.8 percent, an increase of around 7 percent from the results of the January 2023 survey.

The survey shows Prabowo’s electability leaving the PDI Perjuangan candidate Ganjar Pranowo in second place with electability of 24.9 percent. While Anies Baswedan is in third position with 12.3 percent.
