PM works to hire reserve police to work in state schools in the south of SC

World news

The governor of Santa Catarina, Jorginho Mello, sanctioned the complementary bill that creates the Safer School program. The project was announced after the tragedy at Cantinho Bom Pastor, in Blumenau, on April 5. This week, the Civil House published in the Official State Gazette (DOE) the law that establishes rules and legalizes the presence of armed police in all state schools.

“Since the government launched the project, the Military Police (PM) started an outreach campaign for reserve police officers, our goal is for them to enroll in the program. So far, the 6th Regional Military Police (6th CRPM), which serves 27 municipalities in the southern region of Santa Catarina, has received seven applications. We started a new phase with direct contact with all reserve police officers. They will undergo medical examinations, training and will carry out policing in schools”, explains Colonel Vilson Schlickmann Sperfeld, commander of the 6th CRPM.

The remuneration for these professionals will be R$ 2,282 and a meal ticket in the amount of R$ 220. In addition, there will be the payment of an indemnity installment in the amount of R$ 1,600. The expectation of the State Government is that the agents can initiate the armed security of the schools in up to 60 days.

“It is worth mentioning that we always carry out school rounds. Police officers take over the service and travel to schools to intensify security in school units. We have other actions, that is, school visits with the objective of providing guidance on physical structures, access control, walls and fences and other measures”, comments the colonel. Police officers are guiding students, teachers and management on the three steps of fleeing, hiding and fighting.

From now on, there will be the stage of accreditation and hiring of professionals interested in the vacancies. The Safer School program was built by a committee that involves the State Department of Education, the Military Police, the Civil Police, the Scientific Police, the Military Fire Department and the Civil House.

Training

After the hiring process, the next step is the training and psychological assessment of these professionals. Security agents from the Temporary Body of Inactive Public Security (CTISP) may work in schools. In addition to civil and military police, the State Government authorized criminal police, scientists and military firefighters to work in the 1,053 public schools in the state education network.

“Reserve police officers are not summoned, but invited. The contract will be for two years and can be extended, and the maximum age to participate in the work is 70 years old”, points out the colonel. Those interested in participating in the action must register through the link (click here).
