Polish general Waldemar Skrzypczak, former commander of the Land Forces, commented on the situation in Belarus. He stated that he saw a real prospect of an armed uprising in the country and called on Poland to prepare for such a development of events.
General Skrzypczak expressed the opinion that if the Ukrainian counter-offensive is successful, the armed Belarusians currently taking part in the hostilities on the side of the Ukrainian forces will be able to initiate the overthrow of the regime of the self-proclaimed president Alexander Lukashenko. He believes that Poland should be ready to support the Belarusians in their operation against Lukashenka, just as it supports the Ukrainians.
“We are preparing for an uprising in Belarus, because it is inevitable. We can’t miss this moment. We must be ready to support those troops that will carry out the operation against Lukashenka. We have reasons to help them just as we help the Ukrainians,” emphasized Skrzypczak.
The general assures that Belarusians will support the volunteers who are now fighting on the side of Ukraine and will take an active part in the fight against Lukashenko. He also added that Lukashenko has little or no military capacity to prevent a possible uprising, and that Russia, due to its own problems, will not be able to provide much help to him.
Skrzypczak calls on the Polish authorities to prepare for a possible mass influx of Belarusian refugees to Poland should the events he talks about develop. Attention should already be paid to the Polish-Belarusian border. A few days ago, a representative of the office of the Polish intelligence coordinator, Stanisław Żaryn, reported an increase in the number of attacks on Polish patrols along the border with Belarus. According to him, foreigners who are controlled by Russian and Belarusian special services are behind such incidents.
The prospect of a military overthrow of Lukashenko
It should be noted that for a long time it was not known what condition Lukashenko was in or where he was. Since the celebrations of May 9, he has not appeared in public space, no events in which he personally participated have taken place.
At that time, the leader of the united opposition of Belarus, Sviatlana Cichanouska, called for preparation “for any scenario”, given the rumors about the health of the self-proclaimed president.
In response to these rumors, Lukashenko said on Tuesday that he was ill, but due to his busy schedule, I did not have time for treatment and assured him that he “will not die.”
The situation in Belarus remains tense, and the statement of the Polish general Waldemar Skrzypczak about a possible armed uprising has only increased discussions and fears.
Although this scenario is not the ultimate reality, the general’s opinion reflects growing concern about the political and social situation in Belarus.
