Poland is underrepresented in EU leadership positions

World news

Poland once again raised in Brussels the issue of underrepresentation in managerial positions in EU institutions: the Commission, the European External Action Service and the European Parliament. The countries of Central and Eastern Europe, which joined the EU in 2004, face a similar problem.

Information on this matter was presented by the Permanent Representative of Poland to the EU, Andrzej Sadoś. The findings show that the ambassador referred to the latest institutional data, which confirms the continued existence of a systematic and serious problem of geographical disparities.

Sadoś was to convey to the other EU countries and representatives of the institutions that Poland, together with the other nine Member States that joined the EU in 2004, will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its accession to the Union next year, and it is high time to achieve a balanced geographical representation among employees, including in managerial positions.

Although the indicator for Poland is 8.2 percent. due to the percentage of Poles in the EU population, the share of Poles in managerial positions in the European Commission is 4%. The situation is no better in the European External Action Service, where the actual participation of Poles in management is only 3.5 percent, i.e. only 10 managerial positions out of 286. In the EP, it is 2.9 percent. management staff.

Ambassador Sadoś once again called on European institutions to establish clear steps to eliminate these disproportions.
