Ralf Rangnick won’t be the coach of FC Bayern after all. That has been clear since Thursday morning. Now the first reasons for the decision have leaked out.
As the “tz” and the “Bild” newspaper report, Rangnick informed Bayern’s management team on Wednesday and told them the reasons for the decision.
Too much at once
According to “Bild”, this is mainly due to the fact that Rangnick doesn’t want to change his life. “ran” also speaks of “personal reasons”. It wasn’t because of Bayern’s offer.
As Austria’s national coach, the experienced coach is only in focus for several weeks a year. At FC Bayern the spotlight is constantly there. In addition, he would have had to work two jobs up to and including the European Championship in the summer: in addition to that of national coach, he also had to do that of future Bayern coach, who has a say in squad planning. And after a strenuous European Championship, preparation for the season with Bayern would have started straight away. A plan that would have put a great strain on Rangnick’s strength.
Given that the 65-year-old had already taken a nine-month break due to burnout syndrome, this decision is understandable.
“Our full concentration is on the European Championships”
Rangnick himself did not comment on the reasons for his decision. In the ÖFB’s official press release he simply said: “I am the Austrian team boss with all my heart. This task gives me incredible joy and I am determined to successfully continue on our chosen path.”
He wanted to emphasize “that this is not a rejection of FC Bayern, but a decision for my team and our common goals. Our full concentration is on the European Championship. We will do everything we can to get as far as possible there!”
