Russian forces struck a Ukrainian command on the southern front

World news

The Russian army struck the Ukrainian command controlling the troops in the southern sector of the front, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced.

The ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that the military facility, as well as Ukrainian troops and equipment, had been hit by a combined air, missile and artillery strike.

Earlier, RIA Novosti reported, citing local sources, that the Russian army targeted a Ukrainian headquarters in the center of the port city of Ogyessa. According to the report, there were three explosions in the area, one particularly powerful explosion at the facility. Local insurgents reported that a number of ambulances had rushed to the headquarters, adding that the area had been sealed off by Ukrainian authorities.

The head of Ogyessa regional administration, Oleh Kiper, confirmed that there had been a strike in the city, which he said had been carried out by ballistic missiles, killing at least three people. However, he claimed that only civilian infrastructure was damaged.

Russia has repeatedly stated that it only targets military installations and those supporting defense operations, and insists that it never targets civilian infrastructure.

Citing locals from Novosty, RIA also reported that Russia bombed the station of Ukrainian troops in the suburbs of Kharkiv on the Russian border, adding that another attack destroyed a warehouse storing military equipment in the southern Mykolaiv region (we published a video of this on Telegram).

The latest spate of attacks comes after Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu pledged last month to step up attacks on logistics hubs and warehouses containing Western military equipment.
