The head of state said this on June 6 at a meeting with journalists. The event was broadcast on Facebook OPU.
“I certainly see this as a positive signal. If they talk about the future of Russia – it means that Russia is not talking about our future. It seems to me that this is the power of our state. In this war, thanks to the Ukrainian people, most of the world made a choice,” the president said.
According to Zelensky, having made this choice, the world began to think “how they will live … with a different Russia, with a different format of Russian leadership … with different conditions,” which is also positive.
At the same time, according to the president, the risk is that certain circles of international partners will look for a solution “how Russia can get out of this war.”
“I don’t want this way out to be found at our expense. And I’m doing everything not to give it a chance. Therefore, we participate in such conversations, such topics are raised. We are quite categorical in this: not at the expense of Ukraine!” Zelensky stressed.
The Russian Federation unleashed a war against Ukraine in 2014, when it occupied Crimea and part of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine from the northern, eastern and southern directions.
In April, the Ukrainian Defense Forces expelled the invaders from the northern regions of Ukraine, and in the fall they de-occupied part of the Kherson, Mykolaiv and Kharkiv regions. The most intense fighting is now taking place in the Donbass.
The Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly stated that they are pursuing the goal of de-occupying all Ukrainian territories seized by Russia since 2014, including Crimea.
