A Saudi technical team arrived in Damascus yesterday, Saturday, with the aim of reopening the Saudi embassy after a break of nearly a decade in diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and the Assad regime.

According to the official Saudi News Agency, the technical team concerned with reopening the embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Syria has arrived in Damascus, based on the Kingdom’s decision to restart its diplomatic mission.

The agency stated that Minister Plenipotentiary Ghazi bin Rafi al-Anzi heads the Saudi team, and he met with the deputy foreign minister of the Assad regime, Ayman Sousan, and chief of ceremonies, Anwan Nabeeb, at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry in Damascus.

The agency indicated that the head of the Saudi team expressed his thanks to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for the good reception and welcome that the team received, in addition to facilitating their arrival procedures.

On May 8, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced the resumption of work in its diplomatic mission in Syria, after the Assad regime returned to membership in the League of Arab States after the end of its 12-year expulsion period.
