Sergei Shoigu accused Ukraine of blowing up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station

World news

Undermining the structures of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station was carried out by the Ukrainian side, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said, Interfax reports.

“Tonight, the Kiev regime committed another terrorist crime: the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station was blown up, which led to the flooding of large areas,” he said.

On the morning of June 6, it became known that the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station was damaged and, as reported, continues to collapse. The Russian and Ukrainian sides accused each other of “undermining” the station. Settlements downstream of the Dnieper began to flood. Local residents are being evacuated. The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine launched an investigation under the articles “ecocide” and “violation of the laws of war.”

In turn, the Investigative Committee of Russia is investigating the incident as a terrorist attack. According to investigators, the hydroelectric dam collapsed “as a result of criminal actions by the armed formations of Ukraine.”
