Brutal street battles in France: For the fifth night in a row, rioters raged again. Meanwhile, the Shitstorm grew against President Emmanuel Macron. “What was President Macron thinking? Our country is burning and he goes dancing? This is unacceptable!” wrote an angry Frenchman on Twitter. “I’m sure Elton John is really excited to see Macron in his audience as the flames spread across France,” added another.
“Town halls, schools, police stations – everything is on fire and he… goes to a concert? New election!” demands another user on social media.
Macron’s ability to act is not only discussed on Twitter. “In Germany there is growing concern about the President’s ability to act,” said the Franco-German political scientist Yann Wernert from the Jacques Delors Center in Berlin. Increasingly, the question arises as to “how strong the partner is with whom Berlin makes politics”.
