After decades of speculation by Hondurans, the famous international coffee chain Starbucks announced this Monday its arrival in Honduras, with the opening of its first café in the city of San Pedro Sula.
Through a statement, Starbucks Coffee Company announced its plans to enter two new markets in the Latin American and Caribbean region this year: Ecuador and Honduras.
According to the information, this expansion is part of the “Triple Shot Reinvention with Two Pumps” strategy, which establishes the roadmap for how the company will provide long-term sustainable growth. The strategy includes accelerating expansion to 55,000 stores globally by 2030.
In partnership with Delonorte SA and Premium Restaurants of America, the company will open stores in Quito, Ecuador and San Pedro Sula, Honduras, respectively.
“Latin America has been an integral part of the Starbucks business since our founding in 1971. More than half of the coffee Starbucks purchases worldwide each year comes from the region, and we are proud to continue bringing the Starbucks Experience to more people, in more locations, in celebration of the region’s rich coffee heritage,” said Brady Brewer, CEO of Starbucks International.
The opening of the first Starbucks store in Ecuador is scheduled for July 2024, while the debut in Honduras is expected for the end of this year.
It should be noted that Starbucks has been purchasing high-quality Arabica coffee from Honduras for more than a decade and executives have expressed their interest in continuing to elevate Honduran coffee to the world stage.
