According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the head of the ministry recalled after his meeting with his British colleague, David Cameron, that the previous day the proposal was presented to the NATO member states, based on which the North Atlantic Alliance would then play an increased role in the training of Ukrainian soldiers, in coordinating the delivery of weapons, and one hundred billion euros would be set aside to support Kyiv.
He also reported that during the discussion of the proposal on Tuesday, it became clear that “they don’t really want to let us be left out of these joint actions, and it is clear that we will be left out of these actions”.
“Hungarian soldiers will not take part in such actions, we do not allow such actions to take place in Hungary, and we want to stay out of their financing. We want Hungarian taxpayers’ money not to be used for such purposes, but it will be a long struggle.” he pointed.
“They want to push us into the war, they want us Hungarians to take part in this crazy action” he warned.
“We don’t want to take part in this, but it will be a big struggle, and June 9 is a very important point in this struggle, when people can express their clear opinion in the election about whether we should take a pro-war or pro-peace position with the support of the Hungarian people,” he emphasized. .
“The Hungarian government will continue to take a pro-peace stance, and we will do our best to stay out of this crazy action despite the current pressure in NATO. Obviously, many people in NATO do not want this, but we are resisting” he noted.
Péter Szijjártó also touched on the fact that with this proposal, NATO is crossing its own red lines and marching headlong into the war, even though a direct confrontation would entail the risk of the outbreak of the Third World War.
According to his words, it is a “pro-war proposal”, which starts from the premise that “the war in Ukraine is our war”, and the Hungarian position is directly opposed to this.
“And those who think that this is our war argue that this war should be continued until Ukraine wins. NATO’s proposal is also based on this objective, and the British position is as follows: the war must be continued until Ukraine wins,” he declared.
“So both the British and NATO tie the end of the war to a military result that is absolutely unrealistic, the probability of its occurrence is low, practically impossible” he thought.
He then added that the armed conflict cannot be resolved on the battlefield, neither side can prevail over the other, so only a diplomatic settlement can be imagined.
Finally, the minister stated that Hungary and the United Kingdom are allies that absolutely agree on certain issues, while not at all on others. He cited the action against discrimination against nuclear energy and the improvement of European competitiveness as examples of the former.
“We also agree that the relationship system between the European Union and the United Kingdom can be mutually beneficial even if the British have left, and it would be good if they finally stopped punishing this from Brussels, and we could approach EU-British relations with common sense” – formulated.
“We also agree that illegal migration must be stopped, it is dangerous for the migrants themselves, for the countries of transit and also for the countries where the illegal migrants go,” he added.
“However, where we disagree is the issue of the war in Ukraine. While Hungary calls for a cease-fire and peace negotiations, the British are constantly urging everyone to deliver as many weapons as possible to Ukraine,” he continued.
“So the United Kingdom is our ally, and we agree on many important issues, we can talk to each other on the basis of mutual respect, but on one very important, even the most important issue at the moment, how to end the war in Ukraine, we certainly represent opposite positions,” he concluded. .
