This day, the 2024 Population and Housing Census begins, through which the administration of President Nayib Bukele seeks to settle another historic debt with the Salvadorans. The census will allow us to know the main needs of Salvadorans, with the purpose of helping to formulate effective public policies.
It should be noted that for 17 years, the population has not known the statistics regarding the number of inhabitants, where they are and how they live in El Salvador. The new census is led by the Central Reserve Bank (BCR), which has finalized the roadmap to cover the national territory and deliver data this year with the participation of nearly 15,000 trained professionals and the highest technology, specifically designed for this work.
«There will be two censuses in one, the population census, which will tell us how many there are and where we are; and housing, which will tell us where and how we live,” explained the head of the BCR, Douglas Rodríguez.
The official stressed that with the information collected, the Government will be able to correctly generate public policies for the benefit of the population. For example, closer schools can be built, access to internet and electricity, water, health, among others, can be improved.
