The Pentagon has announced a new $1.3 billion military equipment package for Ukraine. As part of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative program, the United States will provide i.a. four additional NASAMS air defense systems, Soviet-era artillery ammunition, and Phoenix Ghost and Switchblade kamikaze drones.

“This USAI package demonstrates the U.S. commitment to meet Ukraine’s urgent needs by delivering critical capabilities in the short term while building a sustainable capability for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to defend its territory and deter Russian aggression in the medium to long term,” the ministry said in a statement.

The list of equipment that will be purchased by the United States for the Ukrainian army includes four additional NASAMS air defense systems (in addition to the eight previously promised), 152mm artillery ammunition used in Russian and Soviet-made guns, mine clearance equipment , TOW anti-tank missiles, Phoenix Ghost and Switchblade loitering ammunition, precision airborne rocket armament, anti-drone systems, 175 technical vehicles and communications equipment.

Due to the need to procure this equipment from manufacturers and other countries, the delivery time of some units may be longer, especially in the case of NASAMS air defense systems.

The new arms package is in addition to previous deliveries and promises, which translates into a total value of military equipment provided and promised by the United States to Ukraine amounting to USD 42.6 billion.
