We know a little more about the circumstances of the accident involving two vehicles on Wednesday, at the end of the day, at the so-called Tir-au-Pigeon bend in Monistrol-sur-Loire. Indeed, an Opel Zafira, driven by a 29-year-old woman, hit a guardrail.
As she was traveling towards Puy-en-Velay, the young woman would have cut off the ignition while driving after seeing her engine light come on. As she tried to put the ignition back on to restart, her steering wheel jammed. The latter hit the guardrail on the left for the first time.
A major traffic jam
A Peugeot 308, which was driving behind it, could not avoid it and hit it from behind, throwing the Opel again against the safety barrier.
The collision caused a major traffic jam for a few hundred meters. The DIR (Departmental Roads Directorate) Massif Central as well as the gendarmes were present on the spot to regulate the traffic which was made on the right lane during the rescue operation.
The 29-year-old driver and her passenger escape unscathed. The driver in the Peugeot 308, meanwhile, complained of back pain. She was evacuated by the firefighters of Monistrol-sur-Loire to the hospital center of Corbusier de Firminy.
