The highway to and from Vilnius will be “monitored” by another speedometer – MadeinVilnius.lt

AB Lithuanian Motor Roads Directorate, implementing the traffic safety measures ensuring traffic conditions on national roads, installed an instantaneous speedometer in both directions at the bridge over the Krunas (road A1 Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda, about 87 km). In this place, the speed is limited to 70 km/h. for traffic safety, since the road over the bridge is narrower than typical for roads of this category, there are no safe stopping lanes. Drivers are asked to follow the speed limit and road traffic rules. It should be emphasized that speeding usually leads to extremely serious consequences of traffic accidents.

By the fourth quarter of this year, the Directorate of Roads of Lithuania plans to install 6 more instantaneous speed meters on the national road A6 Kaunas–Zarasai–Daugpilis, A9 Panevėžys–Šiauliai, A11 Šiauliai–Palanga and road no. 203 Kuršėnai bypass. Detailed information about already installed and planned speed meters on national roads is published publicly on the website of the Road Directorate.

The new instant speedometers will also perform additional functions – technical inspection, insurance and road tax check.

Lithuania contributes to the common goal set by the European Union – to reduce the number of the most serious traffic accidents on roads to zero (by 2050) with complex traffic safety measures, including speedometers. in 2022 Lithuania has been recognized with the most important European award in the field of traffic safety – the “PIN Award” of the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) was awarded to our country for its achievements in improving traffic safety over the past decade. Of all the European countries evaluated by this organization, Lithuania is the only European Union country, since 2011. until 2021 halving the number of road deaths.

At present, 72 instantaneous and 262 average speed meters (131 sections) are installed on roads of national importance in Lithuania.
