King Mohammed VI congratulated Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his re-election as President of the Republic of Turkey, following the second round of elections that took place on Sunday.

In a telegram, the king expressed his “warm congratulations” to President Erdogan, wishing him “full success in continuing to lead the Turkish people to achieve their aspirations for further progress and prosperity.”

And as I congratulate Your Excellency for this renewed confidence, I cannot fail to express to you my deep satisfaction with the high level of constructive cooperation relations between our two countries, thanks to our common keenness to move forward in strengthening and advancing them in various fields.

“From this standpoint, I assure you of my keenness to continue working together with your Excellency in order to strengthen and advance these distinguished relations in various fields in a way that responds to the aspirations of our two brotherly peoples, and contributes to consolidating bridges of solidarity and synergy between the peoples of our Islamic nation,” he added.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan won a new term in a ballot that witnessed unprecedented competition to extend his two-decade rule until 2028.

The 69-year-old overcame Turkey’s worst economic crisis in a generation and the strongest opposition coalition he has faced, keeping his electoral record unbeaten.
