On Thursday evening, President Andrzej Duda arrived on a working visit to Lithuania, where he will meet President Gitanas Nauseda. On Friday, he will observe the “Brave Griffin” military exercise together with the Lithuanian leader.
Andrzej Duda began a working visit to Lithuania, during which he was accompanied by the head of the National Security Bureau (BBN), Jacek Siewiera. On Friday morning, Nauseda will welcome the Polish president at the training ground in the Alytus region, the site of the “Brave Griffin” military exercise. Then, the presidents of Poland and Lithuania will be guests of this event.
Plenary talks of delegations led by the presidents are also planned, after which Duda and Nauseda will meet media representatives at a press conference.
In the afternoon, the presidents will take part in the conference “The Idea of Europe Forum” at the Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas. As the head of the National Security Bureau announced before departure, all issues discussed during the panel will be devoted to the security of NATO’s eastern flank and the Suwałki Isthmus, as well as Polish-Lithuanian cooperation.
Accession anniversary
The discussion panel, despite the topic closely related to regional security, will be an initiative starting the celebration of the 20th anniversary of accession (Poland and nine other countries) to the EU
– added Siewiera.
Andrzej Duda will return to the country on Friday evening.
The week-long Polish-Lithuanian military exercise Brave Griffin 24/II began on Sunday near Druskininkai, Alytus and Oran in Lithuania.
The purpose of the maneuvers with the participation of allies from the USA and Portugal is to test in the Suwałki Isthmus a defensive scenario based on the Polish-Lithuanian Orsha plan. According to data from the Lithuanian army, 1.5 thousand people are taking part in exercises near the border with Poland. soldiers and almost 200 units of military equipment.
