At least five people were killed and 32 wounded in a Russian rocket attack on Monday on an educational institution in the Ukrainian Black Sea city of Odesa, on a promenade by the sea, while Kharkiv counted two dead, officials announced on Tuesday. The provincial governor, Oleh Kiper, announced on Telegram that one man died of a heart attack attributed to a Russian airstrike in Odesa, and that eight were wounded in critical condition, including a 4-year-old child.
Among the wounded is another 4-year-old child, a pregnant woman, and the president of the faculty and former member of parliament, Serhij Kivalov. A private law school was destroyed in the attack, and footage shows firefighters trying to put out smaller fires that are still burning.
“Widows, beasts, savages. I don’t know what else to say. People walk by the sea, and they shoot and kill,” wrote city leader Henadij Truhanov.
Footage released earlier showed the college building burning. Student Marija said that the fire broke out after the missile was intercepted and shot down. Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmytro Pletenuk said Russia fired an Iskander-M ballistic missile with a cluster warhead.
In the Russian attack on Kharkiv, two people were killed and six were wounded, said Governor Oleg Sinegubov.
He said that the center of Kharkiv, a city in northeastern Ukraine and the sixth target of Russian bombing, was attacked by “guided missiles.”
