The recurrent postponement of deadlines for the adaptation of organic statutes and election of the leadership of political parties by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) calls into question its impartiality, said a politician and an analyst.
May 5 is the deadline for political organizations to adapt their organic statutes to the new electoral law and renew their directives; Otherwise, they will be subject to sanctions and even the banning of the acronym, in accordance with Law 1096.
This is the fourth postponement, and the TSE sees a new date extension possible; However, member Tahuichi Tahuichi Quispe said that “everything has a limit.”
The member maintained that, if political organizations fail to comply with their procedures, they will be subject to reprimands. “Whoever accumulates three loses his legal status,” he said.
He clarified that it is not intended to proscribe any political party, it is only intended to comply with current regulations. “The Electoral Body has exercised excessive flexibility,” he admitted.
On the subject, the constitutional lawyer and deputy of the Citizen Community (CC) Carlos Alarcón pointed out that the TSE must assume a role independent of the Executive, “especially in this era that was electoralized early due to the internal struggles of the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) ”.
For political analyst Paúl Coca, the TSE’s position is to avoid problems that may arise from the banning of any of the political parties. “Let us remember that the MAS is a political party that is in charge of the Government,” he said.
Coca said that the possibility of upheaval in the country is latent, such as the blockade led by former president Evo Morales.
He assured that there is no political scenario where the MAS is disqualified, even if it is divided.
