Those infected with Covid-19 are at risk for a year

People who recover from Covid-19 are at increased risk of heart failure and blood clots a year after infection, according to a study. According to the publication Bloomberg, this also applies to persons who have not contracted the disease in a complicated form.

Heart disease and stroke are the main causes of death in the world today. Fatal heart complications are on the rise in those recovering from the coronavirus.

“The consequences of Covid-19 are very important,” said the head of the study, director of the Missouri Clinical Epidemiology Center, Ziad Al-Ali.

“Governments and health systems must face the reality that Covid-19 has loomed over us as a long-term disease with devastating consequences. I am concerned that we are not taking this seriously enough.” – he noted.

Scientists have found that the risk of having a heart attack, stroke or other major cardiovascular problems increases in the first 12 months after defeating Covid.

Researchers compared the risk of heart disease in 151,195 veterans who contracted the virus with more than 3.6 million of their peers who had not been exposed to the virus.

Studies have found that patients who did not require hospitalization had a 39% increased risk of developing heart failure and a 2.2-fold increased risk of blood clots compared to those who did not acquire the virus.

The study also showed that the risk of cardiac arrest increases 5.8 times in case of hospitalization for Covid-19, and the probability of myocarditis increases almost fourteen times.
