According to reports from mainland media such as The Paper and Xiaoxiang Morning News, Guangzhou was hit by heavy rain on the afternoon of April 27. Red rainstorm, red thunderstorm and wind, and orange hail warnings came into effect in many areas. At 16:00, the Guangzhou National Station recorded a cumulative rainfall of 455.8 mm in April, breaking the April rainfall record since 1951.

Hail occurred in Zengcheng District, Panyu District and other places in Guangzhou. Large hailstones can break through vehicle glass, roofs of simple houses, break helmets, etc. Among them, large hailstones with a diameter greater than 5cm occurred in Zengcheng. Some are bigger than a fist and even weigh 250 grams.

A tornado occurred in Zhongluotan Town, Baiyun District. The intensity of the tornado was a strong tornado level, which is equivalent to wind strength of 15-17. The length of the tornado movement path was about 1.7 kilometers and the width was 280 meters. The impact lasted about 4 minutes. The roof of a factory was overturned. A person in charge of a local enterprise affected by the disaster said that it was very scary when the tornado came, and more than 10 water tanks weighing more than 100 kilograms in the factory area were blown to Zengcheng.

Relevant departments in Baiyun District reported that the tornado caused 5 deaths and 33 injuries, and damaged 141 factories. Some injured people at the Baiyun District Third People’s Hospital said that hundreds of people were injured in the tornado and were waiting for treatment.

The Meteorological Observatory predicted on the 28th that severe convective weather will occur frequently in Guangzhou in the next few days, including local hail and tornadoes, short-term heavy rainfall, strong thunder and lightning, and short-term strong winds. On the 29th, the probability of severe convective weather in Guangzhou will be higher, with heavy rain and local torrential rain. Affected by cold air, shear lines and high-altitude troughs, Guangzhou still had strong convective weather on the 30th, with heavy rains and local heavy rains.

Winter returns to many places in Hebei and Inner Mongolia overnight
