Today, Thursday, May 2, the National Seismological Service reported an earthquake on the northern coast of Jalisco.
According to the SSN, the earthquake, of magnitude 4.1, occurred at 04:00 hours, 78 kilometers southwest of the municipality of Vallarta Portat a depth of 16 kilometers.
So far, there are no reports of damage or victims.
Why does it shake frequently on the coast of Jalisco?
Earthquakes are not a freak unknown for Mexico, and in fact, on the Pacific coast they occur frequently. According to an article from the National Center for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred), a department of the Government of Mexico, The tremors in that area are caused by the phenomenon of subduction of the Cocos, Rivera, and Pacific plates with the North American Plate.
