TSE will extend the deadline for the fifth time for parties to renew their directives

World news

The Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) announced the fifth extension of the deadline for political parties to adapt their statutes to Law 1096 and renew their directives, member Tahuichi Tahuichi Quispe confirmed yesterday.

The member clarified that this is a mandatory order; Otherwise, the political organizations will be reprimanded. They anticipate that the period will be extended by 90 or 120 days

This May 5, the deadline for the fourth extension expired for political organizations to renew their directives and adapt their internal statutes. “We were very tolerant and flexible in approving four expansions, but everything has a limit,” he said.

Tahuichi argued the determination of a fifth expansion under the principle of “favorability” for political parties.

He recalled that the first date of mandatory compliance was December 31, 2021 and then three others were added. “If the deadline had not been extended, we would not have political parties now,” he said.

“Obviously, an expansion is in order. We are going to point out the temporality, we are between 90 to 120 days, so that our political organizations can, at once, adapt their statutes and renew their directives,” he said.

Tahuichi explained that failure to renew directives and adapt internal statutes is punishable by a reprimand to the political organization; With three warnings, a political front loses its legal status and is unable to participate in judicial elections.

The electoral member also reported in recent days that, of the 11 national political fronts, three have reprimands: the Nationalist Revolutionary Movement (MNR) with one, Nationalist Democratic Action (ADN) with one and the Christian Democratic Party (PDC) with two. , with which the latter is on the verge of losing its legal status.

He regretted that there was negligence on the part of the political parties in fulfilling their responsibilities before the Electoral Body.

On the subject, political scientist Franklin Pareja pointed out that the TSE is in problems due to the internal division of the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) because they do not want to take charge of the party crisis. “They are doing everything possible to find some solution to their problems,” he said.

Ultimately, and despite pressure from both wings of the MAS, the TSE will have to set a final deadline.
