Ukrainian media report an explosion at the entrance to the Crimean Bridge, connecting the occupied Crimea with Russia. The explosion killed two people and injured one.
Witnesses reported hearing two explosions fifteen minutes apart. Independent websites reported that a rocket had hit the Crimean Bridge. The upper structure of the car crossing was damaged. Car, rail and ferry connections between Russia and the occupied peninsula have been suspended.
Photos have been circulating on social media since morning, showing a fire at the entrance to the bridge. The Ukrinform agency reports that the Russian authorities are directing cars to alternative routes. According to the Reuters agency, the head of the occupation authorities of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, said that traffic on the bridge was stopped due to an “emergency situation”.

The governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, announced that two people had died as a result of the explosion on the bridge. One child was injured.
On Monday morning, the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation reported that the surface of the Crimean Bridge was damaged, but its spans and pillars were undamaged. Crimea’s occupation authorities are now to conduct an investigation into the “Crimean Bridge Incident.”
The Crimean Bridge serves only light vehicles
After the Krymski bridge has been damaged and collapsed and reopened, only light vehicles and tourist buses may enter the crossing. The trucks travel by ferry or land corridor through the occupied regions of Ukraine. The governor of Krasnodar Krai, Veniamin Kondratiev, said that Russian tourists should travel to the Crimea along the corridor. He stated that passing through “new Russian territories” (i.e. Ukrainian territories occupied by Russians) would be a source of pride.

The general staff of the Ukrainian army reported that the Russians are carrying out offensive operations in the Kupa, Lyman, Bakhmuck, Avdiiv and Mariin directions. Ukrainian forces continue their advance towards Melitopol and Berdyans. There have been 28 armed clashes in the last 24 hours.
In the direction of Kupa and Lyman, Russian forces launched unsuccessful attacks. The Ukrainians hold their positions. In the Bakhmuck direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled attacks in the Orichovo-Vasilivka, Hrihorivka and Ivanivskoho regions. In the direction of Avdiivka, the Russians carried out air strikes in the Avdiivka area, and in the Mariinka area, Ukrainian forces are stopping the Russian advance.
According to the Ukrainian general staff, over the last 24 hours, the air force has carried out 15 attacks on areas where Russian forces and equipment are concentrated. Ukrainian artillery and missile units fired on 20 artillery emplacements and two air defense systems.

– Honoring Ukrainian freedom, Ukrainian sovereignty, Ukrainian strength, we always honor our heroes. Various people who have fought and are fighting for Ukraine and to whom we owe our freedom, stressed Volodymyr Zelensky.
The Ukrainian president said that with each passing year his state would strengthen and help other free nations to protect their sovereignty and build common security.
