“Combining tournaments with a child is difficult. The path I chose – that is, that my son will ride with me, is sometimes difficult and I don’t have the time I would like to have,” admits tennis player Barbora Strýcová as she experiences her return to the tennis courts. According to her, tennis is much more open to mothers today than before. “I think that now women will want to return to the sport even more,” she estimates.

“Even if anything happens, that I do really well and win a lot of matches, I know that the very last tournament will be this year’s US Open. I’ve already made up my mind,” admits the professional tennis player. After returning to the courts after maternity leave, it is clear how her successful career will end. “I already have a person next to me – a child to whom I want to give time and I don’t want to run away from him to what was,” he explains.

The uncle also talks about how her priorities have completely changed thanks to motherhood. She laughs at difficult moments on the court today and often doesn’t understand why she got upset in the past. And otherwise, it even has nervousness.

In the interview, she admits that when she realized how nervous her opponent Maryna Zanevská was during the match at the tournament in Rome, it made her feel good. “He had the feeling that he should beat the old mom, who hasn’t played for three years, and win easily. It didn’t quite work out,” laughs the tennis player.

And how does Strýcová explain that women’s tennis is doing so well in the Czech Republic? “I don’t even know why it is like that. We are successful and we have an awful lot of talented young girls. The dominance of women is simply there,” she adds, adding that being a good tennis player is definitely not just about talent.
