United States: Columbia University threatens to expel students who took over building World news

Columbia University, New Yorkwarned the group of pro-Palestinian students who forcibly took over their emblematic building, Hamilton Hall, and vandalized it early this Tuesday, who face expulsion for violating the educational center’s internal rules.

“Yesterday (Monday) we made it very clear that the work of the University cannot be ceaselessly interrupted by protesters who violate the rules. Continuing to do so will have clear consequences: the students who took over the building face expulsion”said the spokesperson for the office of Columbia University Public Affairs, Ben Chang, through a statement.

And I add: “This is about responding to the actions of the protesters, not their cause.” However, the think tank alleges that these young defenders of the Palestinian cause are provoking “a threatening environment” for many of his Jewish classmates and teachers.

The attack on the institutional building this Tuesday took place hours after the management of this university announced that it had begun to apply suspensions to students involved in the Palestine support camp, present on campus for two weeks, and will even prohibit those in their final year from graduating.

For the university, the protesters opted this Tuesday to “escalate” the situation, “breaking doors and windows of Hamilton Hall, and blocking doors”so they will continue with “precautionary measures.”

“We gave everyone at the camp the opportunity to leave peacefully. If they agreed to respect University policies, they would be allowed to finish the semester,” they said from the Public Affairs office.

The Columbia protests add to those that hundreds of students in dozens of Other universities in the United States have been protesting the situation in Gaza for days.

The demonstrations have in common the rejection of US policy towards Israelly the request that educational centers break relations with the Israeli Government and the private sector.
