RTL Danas reporter Ana Mlinarić she called live from the streets of Belgrade. He says that Aleksandar Vučić certainly does not care about the situation in which he found himself and that he certainly cannot ignore such a large number of people taking to the streets. She spoke with Vučić’s opponent in the last election Biljan Stojkovićco-president of the Zajedno party.
Can the president ignore this amount of people on the streets?
He tries to ignore it, but it clearly fails. He showed that last night and today, when around noon he had a big meeting where he resigned from the post of SNS president. In my opinion, the debacle from his rally that we saw last night, and his resignation in front of his party members, is a huge defeat. At the end of next month, he will try to recover to establish his movement. To that extent, he inserted politics and the Serbian National Party into every segment of life, and the only thing that matters is whether you are a member of his party or not. In all segments of life, in the treatment of children, in employment in anything. And that is exclusively related to the Serbian Progressive Party.
Do you think they will call an election?
I don’t think it will. I think it’s in decline now. I don’t think the party will let him call elections at this moment.
How do you see the outcome of this situation?
I can’t even guess now. No one can guess, and I don’t think he can guess how he will get out of this. They make decisions from day to day. There are some focus groups every day. Every day he measures what he did the previous day, so we have constantly had changes of sentences, changes of statements, contradictions. So this is the first time in Serbia that we cannot even guess what will happen.
He invited you to negotiate. He said his doors are open as of today. Would you sit down with him at the table and discuss your terms?
Absolutely not. In his cabinet behind closed doors, without cameras – no. Everything can be discussed, publicly, LIVE, broadcast on RTS, and that after he fulfills all the demands of the protest, which is the cancellation of the frequency for ‘his media’, that is, for his propaganda machinery. We have many requests. When he achieves that, then negotiations, conversations, and that in LIVE transmission, can take place.
How strong do you think you and the citizens are to take to the streets? Do you think it will all subside a bit in the end?
His statements, the statements of Ana Brnabić, the statements of the ministers, always give people a reason to take to the streets again, because what they do is unprecedented, the way they talk about people who don’t think like them. And about ordinary people and public figures and politicians. It is such bigotry and such hatred that they cannot hide it. People don’t want to suffer anymore, and that was also seen last night. He really brought a lot of people. He used the last cent of this country’s budget to feed his ego and show his power, and it happened that all those people ran away even before he stood at the microphone.
