The Celje String Orchestra attracted many visitors to the Narodni dom with its May 5th subscription concert, as the hall was practically full.

The musicians started the concert with a christening performance of a modern composition that touches on the history of classical music, with the composition Mali ricercarji, by the composer Peter Šavlij, who joined the musicians in the hall. Šavli initially wrote the composition for piano, but soon created a string arrangement, which he dedicated to his long-time friend, the conductor Nenadu Firštu, who waved the conductor’s baton this time as well. As the author wrote, ricercar is a baroque musical form characterized by artificially created scales with a high degree of symmetry. The string orchestra continued the concert with compositions by famous composers, Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Three soloists joined the orchestra during the performance of Bach’s composition, Primož Novšak, Katarina Zupan and Marko Zupan, who impressed the audience. Novšak is one of the most prominent Slovenian violinists and has been performing since early childhood. Zupanova graduated from junior music school in Žalec, later she continued to improve and educate herself, so today she teaches violin and conducts the string orchestra of GŠ Škofja Loka and participates in the SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana orchestra. Zupan, in addition to being a highly educated and successful violinist and concert master of the Celje String Orchestra, also works at the neurological department of the Celje General Hospital, where he was also the director for a long time.

In gratitude for the thunderous applause, the soloists played an additional encore written for three violins by one of the soloists just for this occasion. Finally, the orchestra played another well-known composition by Mozart, Little Night Music, which once again completely enchanted. (MH)
