Wilson, dog whose footprints allowed children to be found in the Guaviare jungle, does not appear

World news

Thanks to the footprints left by the dog Wilson, the four children, ages 13, 9, 4 and 1, who were lost 40 days ago in the Guaviare jungle, were found alive after the plane crash in the that three adults died, including the mother of the little ones.

More than a week ago it was reported that Wilson, a dog from the Military Forces trained for rescues, had been lost in the Guaviare jungle. His footprints, according to the first reports, were key to finding the children.

Although it was said that the canine was with the children at the time of its discovery, President Gustavo Petro confirmed that it has not appeared.

Lieutenant Colonel Fausto Avellaneda, head of the Operation Hope ground mission, told Los Informantes, a Caracol Television program, the following: “We have a lost dog. The latest scans show a dog print and a child’s print. We believe that Wilson is with them, that’s the name of the dog, but he is missing. It would be spectacular if the puppy was with them, it would be good company.

As reported by Cambio magazine, on Wednesday of last week, Wilson was released at one of the search points, in the middle of the jungle, but despite his training, the Belgian dog did not return to his handler. However, this is not the first time the canine has gone missing.

The same publication noted that Wilson was missing for three weeks. When he returned with the uniformed officers, he presented dehydration and small injuries, for this reason he was taken to the San José del Guaviare base, where he remained for several days under veterinary observation. After his recovery, he returned to the jungle to continue the search work.

Wilson was of vital importance, because together with another dog named Ulises they found important traces. Wilson was the one who found the bottle that would be the baby’s, while Ulises found a makeshift shelter and diapers.

While Wilson’s whereabouts are still unknown, Ulises, Cambio magazine said, had to be rushed out of the area after presenting lacerations and vomiting. Snail News
