Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Wagner Group’s Russian private military militia, complained about the Russian army that was about to attack his mercenaries. He stated that Russian soldiers mined the retreat routes from Bakhmut and opened fire because of “personal dislike of the Wagner Group”.
The head of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, has published a report in which he accuses soldiers of the Russian army of mines and shelling his mercenaries. The incident allegedly took place on May 17 near Bakhmut. “That day a group of sappers […] set off for engineering reconnaissance of the designated section of roads. We found land mines in the form of a large number of anti-tank weapons and artillery shells, installed in a controlled version and deployed in front of the positions of the (army – ed.) Ministry of Defense. […] During the retreat, small arms fire was opened from the positions of the Ministry of Defense,” Prigozhin reported, quoted by UNIAN. The agency also posted the entire document, which was published on Telegram.
Prigozhin added that the Russians shot at the engine of the Ural truck and for this reason the Wagnerians could not move on. It was also then that they were supposed to carry out “an act of retaliation in order to eliminate the danger” and they started shooting at the Russians. According to the head of the Wagner Group, the mercenaries detained several soldiers, including the commander of the 72nd Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade. Prigozhin reports that “the lieutenant colonel was intoxicated.” He was to testify that “shot at the truck ‘out of a personal dislike’ of the Wagner Group.”

Military experts believe that the Russians do not know how to react to attacks in the Belgorod region. In recent days, units of anti-Kremlin Russian volunteers have once again entered Russia and attacked border villages and the city of Shebekino. Operations on the territory of the Russian Federation are carried out by the Russian Volunteer Corps and the Freedom of Russia Legion. As a result, the Russian authorities have lost control over an area of several dozen kilometers along the border with Ukraine, says military expert Denys Popovych on the air of the Ukrainian telemarathon. It is an area extending 10-15 kilometers deep into Russian territory for 30 kilometers along the border.
Meanwhile, American analysts from the Institute for War Studies believe that the Russian authorities do not know how to react to the actions of anti-Kremlin troops supported by Kiev and are sending contradictory signals. According to the report, while the Russian Ministry of Defense reported about repulsed attacks, the governor of the region allowed for talks with pro-Ukrainian troops. According to analysts, this proves the lack of coordination of the Russian authorities’ actions regarding this sensitive section.

The Ukrainian General Staff reported that the last 24 hours the Russians shelled the territory of Ukraine dozens of times. As we read in the communiqué, the invaders fired 14 rockets, made 40 air strikes and 51 artillery attacks. They were attacked by residential buildings, there are civilian casualties. The Russians also attacked Ukraine using Shahed drones and Kh-55 cruise missiles. The probability of further strikes is high. In response, the Ukrainian air force carried out 15 air strikes on the places of concentration of enemy troops and Russian military warehouses.
