Why put a bay leaf in flour?

Noble laurel or Laurus nobilis is a tree that thrives in the Mediterranean and actually looks quite similar to a giant ficus. It is not an interesting tree until you rub its leaves in your fingers. Then all you have to do is tear it, dry it and you have alleluia spices! This can then be used in cooking, to prepare tea or as a repellent against various unpleasant pests.

For example, bay leaf is added not only to flour, but also to dried mushrooms. If the contents of the box or jar interfere with you, you can just attach it to the lid or put it in the jar in an organza or canvas bag.

This prevents the bay leaf from crumbling into the contents of the container, but allows the aroma to penetrate, which has a repellent effect against moths and other nasty pests that like to attack food and spices.

Bay leaf and oil: Repellent against many types of insects

Also pay attention if small fish appear at your home. You would only rarely see them with your eyes, because they are light-shy and hide all day, but you wouldn’t miss books or even clothes eaten by them. Bay leaves do not smell even to fish. You can leave a few notes behind the furniture in different corners of the room.

You can also store it at the bottom of cupboards in the kitchen but also elsewhere in the house, as it should smell bad even to some types of ants. Unfortunately, not everyone, so you will have to test its effectiveness.

Why does bay leaf work as a repellant? The leaves contain a natural insecticide called eucalyptol. These insects are not only repulsive, but also toxic to them, which is why even pests avoid them with great care.

If you don’t want crushed leaves and bags of bay leaves all over the house, buy bay leaf essential oil and use the concerted liquid in a more elegant way. A few drops will not harm the furniture or the floor, and annoying pests will disappear from your home.
