Culture and trends

Karan Soni is openly gay, but the actor wasn’t the one to confirm his sexuality. He has collaborated with his partner on a few projects, with one currently underway, but has guarded the romance’s privacy.

Karan Soni joined the film and TV industry in the early 2000s, appearing in a walk-on role in the series “Crime Patrol.” However, he only fully committed his onscreen career from 2010 onwards.

His first major role was in the 2011 comedy “Worst. Prom. Ever.,” portraying Glenn alongside Haley Ramm and Daryl Sabara. Soni consistently appeared in films and TV shows afterward, including “Safe Not Guaranteed” and “1600 Penn.”

He was also in Issa Rae’s “Little Horribles,” “Aim High,” opposite Jackson Rathbone and Devon Bostick, and had leading roles in the comedy series “Betas,” the sci-fi adventure “Other Space,” and the 2015 fantasy film “Goosebumps” with Jack Black.

Soni would catapult worldwide stardom the following year after portraying Dopinder in D.C.’s beloved “Deadpool,” opposite Ryan Reynolds and Gina Carano. He returned in “Deadpool 2” and is set to reprise the role in 2024’s “Deadpool 3.”

Soni’s career has been soaring since joining the cast of the superhero franchise, but, as it appears, so has his love life. The Hollywood star, who will soon star in the gay romcom “A Nice Indian Boy,” has been in a long-term relationship with writer Roshan Sethi.

Karan Soni’s Sexuality – The Actor’s Partner Confirmed He Is Gay

Soni’s love life and sexuality have long been a subject of interest among fans. Although he has become a familiar face onscreen, having appeared in several high-profile productions, little is known about his personal life.

The same has gone for his sexuality, which wasn’t confirmed until recently. He once appeared for an interview alongside Sethi, where they shared a few details about their upcoming film, with Sethi revealing:

“We’re going to make a gay romcom next year since we’re gay, and Karan is going to play the lead, and then I’m going to direct.”

Karan Soni’s Partner Is a Movie Director – Get To Know Roshan Sethi

Sethi is in the film and TV industry like his partner but has, so far, only worked behind the scenes. He started as a staff writer for the CBS drama series “Code Black” in 2015.

He followed with “The Resident” in 2018, a Fox medical drama led by “The Good Wife” star Matt Czuchry, Manish Dayal, and Bruce Greenwood. The show aired its latest season in 2023.

Sethi is also credited for writing “Call Jane” and the 2021 comedy-drama “7 Days.” The latter film starred his beau, Soni, and explored the traditional Indian custom of arranged marriage, among other related concepts.

During a chat with High On Films, the couple revealed they moved in together while making the movie. They also shared that the main characters’ relationship dynamic resembled their own.

In another interview, they revealed that another joint project was in the works but remained tight-lipped on most details. However, it is safe to say that that project is “A Nice Indian Boy,” which Sethi is currently directing.

Karan Soni’s Future Onscreen Partner, Jonathan Groff, Is Also Gay

Jonathan Groff will play Soni’s love interest in “A Nice Indian Boy.” The actor came out as gay in 2008, following his role as Melchior, alongside Lea Michele, in the stage production “Spiritual Awakening.”

In 2022, HBO released a documentary about the show. In it, Groff reflected on how playing Melchior “cultivated” a particular strength and confidence that helped him overcome his shame about his sexual identity.
