Haaland bommet på straffe Рolitics

Martin Ødegaard shot into the crossbar.

Alexander Sørloth had a goal disallowed.

Erling Braut Haaland missed a penalty.

Norway dominated. But once again they messed up the victory.

– It’s crazy. We should have won the match quite comfortably, says national team captain Martin Ødegaard to NRK.

– It is of course sad, says Sander Berge to NRK:

See the goals from the match here:

When we’re at the cabin, we’re bad at recycling. Calls for action.

– It is déjà vu for Norway, it is absolutely horrible to watch. And it’s guaranteed to be absolutely horrible for the players to feel that this happens again and again, and again, and again, and again, says NRK’s expert, Kristoffer Løkberg, about yet another late goal in the last ten minutes of the match.

Haaland apologizes

With the last goal on the line, Norway has now conceded a total of 34 goals with Ståle Solbakken as national team coach. 13 of them have come in the last ten minutes of the games.

– It’s almost a little crazy. I don’t have a good answer, says Ødegaard to NRK about another late goal.

The national team manager himself was confronted by TV 2 with the fact that Norway has now conceded eight late goals after 80 minutes played since the Spain match about a year ago.

– We have to solve it before the seriousness breaks out in the autumn. There is no reason why it should have been exciting today. This match should have been stopped 100 years ago, says Solbakken to TV 2.

– It’s a trauma for the team now and sits in the guys’ minds. It is no coincidence that they make more mistakes in the last ten minutes than the entire game. It is my responsibility and must make sure to weed it out, he adds.

Erling Braut Haaland, who thus missed a penalty in the second half, has posted on Instagram that he takes the blame for the victory slipping away.

– Sorry, everyone. It is on my mantle that we did not win today, writes the forward.

– I don’t know whether to laugh or cry

Because even though the chance statistics were clearly in Norway’s favor on Tuesday, the match ended 1-1 on goal. It makes the experts tear their hair out.

– I don’t know if we should laugh or cry. It is a replay of the Norwegian international matches we have seen against similar opposition. We dominate and create the most, but we simply cannot win football matches, says Løkberg.

– That disaster, it was forewarned. We sat with an uneasy feeling. You also see it in the Norwegian players. They become more and more anxious. There is no free kick. It is a miserable intervention by Leo Skiri Østigård. Again, we see a team that is unable to be solid enough, for long enough, says TV 2 expert Jesper Mathisen.

– It must be horrible to be a Norwegian national team player with this ghost hanging over him, concludes Løkberg.

Captain Ødegaard believes that Norway did a lot of good, but that it is obviously a disappointing result.

– In the second half, we are behind. We let them into the game and with the ball we play ourselves into trouble. What happens at the end is a bit random. Fortunately, not now. We must see that the good we do. We play them off the pitch and create nine chances, says Ødegaard.

Total dominance before rest

It was the Norwegian team that started by far the best. In the first quarter, Norway had several good opportunities, but without Oscar Bobb, Erling Braut Haaland, Julian Ryerson or Sander Berge being able to get the ball into the net.

But after 17 minutes, Norway got their goal. Martin Ødegaard hit a corner kick which eventually fell to Alexander Sørloth. From four metres, one of La Liga’s top scorers this season had few problems rolling the ball into the corner.

Then the Premier League stars ravaged the Norwegian team. First, Erling Braut Haaland played to Martin Ødegaard who slammed the ball into the crossbar from the corner of the penalty area.

City players Oscar Bobb and Haaland then played wall. Bobb finished, but the shot was blocked at the last minute.

Then Martin Ødegaard hit the ball through to Oscar Bobb. The latter spun around with the Slovakia defence, but in the end a defender got the ball out for a corner kick.

Just before the break, after Norway’s complete dominance throughout the first half, Martin Ødegaard hit a corner kick that was so high that the ball came down with snow on it. In the field, Alexander Sørloth was the tallest and headed the ball into the goal. The referee believed that Sørloth pushed a Slovakia defender and therefore canceled the goal. Despite the fact that neither Sørloth nor Ødegaard were particularly impressed by that decision, the goal was also canceled after a VAR check.

– Two hands behind the back from Sørloth there, that’s just enough for it not to be changed, says NRK expert Kristoffer Løkberg about the cancellation.

Norway thus led by one at the break.

– Norway can be delighted with the first half. The only thing they should not be satisfied with is that they are not leading anymore, says Løkberg about the first half.

– Is Slovakia really in the EC? Are we really going to sit at home? We are really a better team than Slovakia, said TV 2’s commentator Øyvind Alsaker after the first half.

First penalty miss for the national team

The second half started like the first. Norway led the way and received a penalty seven minutes into the half.

Erling Braut Haaland stepped forward. From 11 metres, he has previously scored on 41 out of 46 penalties, for Norway he has scored on all of those he has taken. Until today.

Because despite the fact that the penalty was at the very bottom of the corner, the Slovakian goalkeeper saved the ball.

– It’s a great save from the goalkeeper. Haaland actually shoots hard and well-placed, but the goalkeeper goes early and reaches all the way into the corner. It is almost a déjà vu for Norway, who once again had the opportunity to punctuate the match, says Løkberg about the penalty miss.

– It’s a huge save from Rodak. Throws himself like a panther into the corner, says TV 2’s football expert Jesper Mathisen

Martin Ødegaard was replaced 15 minutes before the end.

EXCHANGED: Ståle Solbakken replaced his biggest stars, both Erling Braut Haaland and Martin Ødegaard (pictured), before Norway conceded in the final minutes.

But again, as so many times before in recent years, Norway conceded towards the end of the game. The defense lost three decisive duels and suddenly Ondrej Duda was alone with the goalkeeper. With three minutes left in normal time, Slovakia equalised.

– It is unimaginable, what is happening. Østigård was actually in control, but instead of hitting the ball over the line, he got too cocky and lost the ball. He wants a free kick, but it certainly isn’t.
