The Israeli army explained that the talk is about raising the level of readiness of the 2nd Brigade of the 146th Division and the 679th Brigade of the 210th Division.
He said that the two aforementioned brigades, “as part of the preparations for activity in the sector (which he did not clarify), raised their level of readiness by conducting a series of exercises on the northern and southern fronts.”
He continued: “The fighters practiced fighting methods and reviewed the summary of conclusions and lessons resulting from the fighting and maneuvering in the Gaza Strip so far.”
The Israeli army did not mention the reason behind withdrawing the two brigades from the north to Gaza, but the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said on Tuesday evening that the army was preparing to invade Rafah, south of the Strip, “very soon,” in an operation that “includes the evacuation of large numbers of residents,” with American approval.
Israel insists on invading Rafah, claiming that it is “the last stronghold of the Hamas movement,” despite increasing international warnings of catastrophic repercussions, in light of the presence of about 1.4 million displaced people there.
During the war, Israel forced most of the Palestinians in the northern and central Gaza Strip to flee to the city of Rafah, bordering Egypt.
