Ukrainians in the UK - MP proposed spending refugees' money on cleaning up dog feces War in Ukraine news

In response to a proposal from local Conservative MP Alan Amos, such a step was called completely inappropriate and even illegal.

A council representative in the UK is questioning why funds allocated to help Ukrainian refugees cannot be spent on cleaning up dog faeces and rubbish. The BBC writes about this.

During a recent meeting, Alan Amos, representing the Conservative Party, asked Worcester City Councilwoman Lynn Denham about this.

But he was told that such a move would be “completely inappropriate” and likely illegal.

Amos’ comments come after a local communities committee decided in January to spend £86,515 (almost €100,100) over three years to make Worcester a city of sanctuary.

The City of Sanctuary designation was intended to support Worcester’s culture of solidarity and inclusiveness.

Birmingham, Bromsgrove, Redditch, Malvern and Herefordshire are just a few of the British cities that have already received the title.

“Last week, the large bin at the entrance to Pitmaston Park had been taking so long to empty that there were bags of dog waste lying on top and around it. When I asked why this was happening, I was told that both collection machines had broken down,” he explained. “So doesn’t this prove that the city’s cleaning and waste collection budgets are completely unsustainable, although at least that £90,000 could be used to buy another cleaning van.”

Denham responded that she was not aware of the amount of dog poop in the district that Amos represents.

She added that funds from the Homes for Ukraine initiative reserve grant and the Dispersed Accommodation grant will be used to finance the “shelter city” project.

Both grants are awarded to the local council by the British Government.

“This is not funded from the council’s core budget and will not put a strain on revenue,” Denham said.

Spending money from the mentioned grants on street cleaning would be completely unreasonable and, most likely, illegal.

Let us remind you that Germany plans to limit payments to refugees. The Bundestag approved an initiative with a national payment card to prevent transfers of funds to smugglers or relatives abroad.

It was also reported that in Britain, animals were trained on treadmills before dog fights.
