5 types of fruit you should eat if you have metabolic syndrome, according to dieticians

World news

METABOLIC syndrome is a group of disorders that includes high blood pressure, high blood sugar levels and visceral obesity. Patients suffering from this syndrome have an increased risk for heart disease, stroke and type II diabetes. If we have at least three of these conditions, it may mean that we have metabolic syndrome.

However, the good news is that fruit contains key nutrients to prevent or manage metabolic syndrome, as it is the main source of fiber in our diet. “Fiber is arguably the most important nutrient for boosting your metabolic health,” dietitian Kaytee Hadley tells EatingWell.

It is also high in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that can improve cardiovascular and metabolic health. So Hadley and dietitian Meggie Connelly have singled out five fruits we should eat if we want to prevent or manage metabolic syndrome.

  1. Bananas
  2. Grapes
  3. Mango
  4. Apples
  5. Watermelon

Although fruit can get a bad rap when it comes to blood sugar, it contains fiber and antioxidants that are great for metabolic health. Therefore, dieticians recommend consuming 210 to 280 grams of fruit every day.
