FC Bayern | Ralf Rangnick is now said to be the favorite for the coaching position

Most recently, Ralf Rangnick apparently rejected FC Bayern. Now the former Red Bull maker is still said to be the favorite for the coaching position.

Has FC Bayern finally found its ideal candidate for the head coach position? As the Munich “tz” reports, Ralf Rangnick is now the clear favorite to succeed Thomas Tuchel. According to Sky, Rangnick is also open to the coaching job at Säbener Straße. However, a lot still has to happen for a commitment to be made.

After Bayern’s Plan A failed with master coach

What’s more: According to “tz”, the initial situation currently seems clear. If Rangnick says yes to Bayern, he will hire Austria as Bayern coach in Munich after the European Championship, the report continues. If everything goes according to plan, the deal with Rangnick should be finalized this week.

Has Rangnick already canceled Bayern here?

At least it fits that Bayern’s sports director Eberl said on Sky on the sidelines of the 5-1 win at Union Berlin: “Hopefully we will soon be entering the home straight with our candidates. We are now very final and hope that we can announce something soon.”

The “Kicker” had also recently named Rangnick as a “hot candidate” at Bayern and wrote that he could definitely imagine working for the record champions. There is said to have been a meeting with the 65-year-old a few weeks ago.

However, Rangnick publicly contradicted this at a media event almost two weeks ago. “No. Why should I?” said Rangnick when asked whether he had spoken to those responsible at FC Bayern. “I feel comfortable here. I still have a contract until 2026. Our goal and path continues even after the Euro.” At the time, these sentences were already interpreted as a rejection of the record champions.

Bayern wanted Rangnick before

Not all club bosses were convinced of the former Red Bull maker right from the start. Rangnick was on Eberl and sports director Christoph Freund’s shortlist early on, whom Rangnick knows well from his time in the Red Bull cosmos. From 2012 to 2015, when Rangnick was sports director and Freund was sports coordinator, the two worked successfully together in Salzburg. At least Bayern’s first desired solution was not Rangnick, which became clear at the latest through the previous efforts to find Alonso and Nagelsmann.

But that may have changed now. Incidentally, this is not the first time that Rangnick has been discussed as a coach at FC Bayern. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge already negotiated with him in 2019 when the Munich team was looking for a successor to Niko Kovac and ultimately decided on Hansi Flick.
