The suspense of the Tour, already well tainted during the time trial the day before this 17th stage, almost took a big hit when Pogacar fell at the start of the stage. Fortunately, it was more fear than harm. 70 km from the finish, the breakaway made up of 30 riders, including 2 Belgians (Devenyns and Benoot), and the inevitable Ciccone and his polka dot jersey who took the 10 points at Cormet de Roselend. The Colombian Egan Bernal fell during the descent of the Côte de Longefoy but was able to get back on the road almost directly.
